Icona Solutions’ aesthetica™ software selected by leading Japanese automotive manufacturer.

Advanced manufacturing variation visualization software will lead to higher perceived quality of vehicles.

Manchester, UK. 20 September, 2005. - Icona Solutions Ltd., the leading developer of interactive manufacturing variation simulation and visualization software, has announced that a leading Japanese automotive manufacturer has placed an order for the supply and implementation of Icona's aestheticaT v2 software. It will be used to save time and reduce costs in perceived quality studies early in the design process for new passenger vehicles. The order follows the completion of pilot studies, using aestheticaT with live design and analysis data.

Icona Solutions' aestheticaT is leading-edge software for visualizing the impact of manufacturing variation on product quality. For the first time, engineers using aestheticaT are able to review, interactively, the effects of manufacturing variation on the appearance of a vehicle or sub-assembly, such as an instrument panel or body work.

The automotive company will use aestheticaT at its design centre to produce interactive visualizations of non-nominal products for design review and aesthetic assessment and to enhance the company's quality auditing processes during vehicle development.

"In such a competitive environment as the automotive industry, it is vital for companies to continually improve the concept-to-market cycle through 'right first time' design," said Dr. John Maxfield, technical director, Icona Solutions Ltd. "We are therefore delighted that this major automotive manufacturer has made the decision to deploy aestheticaT as a key contributor to its quality, cost and delivery objectives. We are confident that it will fulfill a crucial role in enabling the company to save time and reduce costs in the perceived quality process."

The order was placed through Icona Solutions' exclusive UK reseller, Majenta Solutions Ltd., who worked closely with Icona throughout the project.

About aestheticaT

Icona Solutions' aestheticaT software provides an accurate, visual simulation of the effects of component variation, assembly variation and component deformation in manufactured assemblies in order to resolve issues of fit and finish quality. It presents results using a high quality interactive 3D virtual reproduction of a product so that the engineer can see it precisely as the customer will see the final product. This gives greater insight than has previously been possible into the impact of manufacturing variation, improving perceived quality while saving time and improving communication in the design process.
